AWARD FOR GSN AT THE "MORE THAN A MARKET" AWARDS GALA IN THE SPECIAL CATEGORY JURY SELECTION
2021-09-06After a very successful participation in the "More than a Market" Awards 2019, GSN Electronics (Shenzhen) Ltd. Took part again in 2021. Last time, the Living Wage project secured the second place in the "Small Businesses (1-500 employees in China)" category. This time GSN Electronics (Shenzhen) Ltd. entered the race with the “See Your Child Program” (SYCP).
Since 2016, the award has been presented annually by the Bertelsmann Foundation together with the German Chamber of Commerce in China to recognize outstanding social commitment by German companies in China. Support comes from the diplomatic representation of the Federal Republic of Germany in China and the Legal Center for NGOs (“ForNGO”).
A total of 74 projects applied in 2021. Of these, 19 made it onto the shortlist, divided into the following five categories: Education, Environmental Protection, Diversity & Inclusion, Sustainable Supply Chains and Jury Selection as a special category.
In the special category Jury Selection, GSN competed with the "See Your Child Program" and made it among the four finalists. The "See Your Child Program" was established at our headquarters in Shenzhen in 2015 as part of our RCC (Radical Corporate Citizenship) strategy. This means that 1/3 of the company's profits are reinvested back into society.
Migrant work is sad everyday life in China and families, parents and children alike, suffer as a result. Many workers are forced to leave their children with their grandparents, in orphanages or even on their own while they seek work in the big industrial cities to support their families. Under normal circumstances, parents and children see each other for a maximum of one week per year.
Studies show that the life situation of the so-called "left behind children" often leads to alienation, reduced self-esteem and an increased rate of suicide and crime (compared to children who live with their parents). It is also a very stressful situation for the parents.
The "See Your Child Program" counteracts this. Since 2015, in addition to the already above-average 15 vacation days per year, parents have five extra days of paid vacation twice a year. GSN also covers 50% of the travel expenses.
A seemingly simple measure that brings enormous profit. From the economic point of view, one can cite the increased satisfaction and thus the increased motivation and loyalty of the employees. As a result, there is only little fluctuation at GSN and valuable know-how remains in the company. Above all, the social and emotional aspects count. Families - parents, children, grandparents and extended family – benefit in many ways, through the strengthened bond, emotional stability, as well as through satisfaction and security. Such values cannot be weighed up with numbers.
In the "Jury Selection" category, GSN Electronics (Shenzhen) Ltd. was one of the finalists alongside ALDI CHINA, Borussia Dortmund China and ERGO (China) Management Company Ltd. We are very proud to have found attention, for our project and as a medium-sized company, next to such great competitors and their projects.
In addition to the actual award gala, "More than a Market" primarily serves to promote exchange, networking and the promotion of eco-social projects. In that regard alone, it's an honor to have been a part of it again.
We will continue on our path as pioneers in the electronics industry for eco-social manufacturing in China and hope to have won others over to our idea.
